A walk in the woods

Yep, still alive ::nods vigourously:: - despite appearances ;-)

So. Jaunt Day with [personal profile] nicci_mac. We went to Beecraigs, a country park/deer farm/trout farm near Linlithgow. Deer and trout weren't the main things we were after though - we were after fungi. And we found some beauties :-D The macro got a workout and a half ;-)

If you go down to the woods today...WARNING! IMAGE HEAVY )

Problem

So. I'm back from my holidays (Turkey - lovely!) and I'm trying to catch up with what's been going on. But when I do the skipping back thing on my reading page (<--- technical term for 'previous 20') I only skip back as far as August 24. Is this normal for DW to just be able to skip back a couple of weeks? Or have I set something screwy?

ETA: Never mind, I just looked in the FAQ, which is exactly what I should have done to start with: you *can* only go back 14 days ::glum::

So, yeah, I caved

and bought 'Children of the Gods - Final Cut'.

Spoilers ahoy, I daresay )

Pleased and flustered :-D and posting from work *g*

Thank you, whoever you are, for the lovely surprise of paid DW time!  I've no idea who's responsible, or why - but I'm very grateful (and bright pink with pleasure) that you thought to do that for me :-))

Fandom-wise, I've got nuthin' - but here's some picspam to reassure you all that I'm still alive :-D A few random photos and a travelogue *g*

Well, I'm here - thanks to [personal profile] ivorygates - and thank you for that! :-)

No userpics (so far), no 'style' (*never* any style, worse luck - one of life's muppets, me:  Waldorf is the muppet of choice LOL), no clue as to how this works, as yet (and don't hold your breath, LJ took me an age to even remotely work out), but I'm here :-)

Okay, who's got wine and/or pretzels?

PSA

Robert Kennedy, Jr., is seeking support for an environmental campaign to highlight, and hopefully reverse, the plight of the polar bear. At this link

http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/Rescue_the_Polar_Bear

you can send a pro forma letter to the new Interior Secretary urging the Obama administration to take action on global warming and also exploitation of resources in the Arctic by tightening up the laws governing energy wastage and oil exploration.

Seems reasonable to me - after all, once the bears are gone, they're gone - so please, go sign, and go spread the word to all and sundry. And not just US nationals either: we've only got one planet, and we all have to live on it, and US policy affects us all!

TY :-D

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] alphekka_alpha :-) Lord, it seems like no time at all since I was wishing you the same last year... penalty of gettin' older, I guess

Anyhoo. Have a wonderful day, and a year to remember! :-)))

Meme

Filched from [livejournal.com profile] perclexed. Because it looks like fun :-)

Post a picture in my comments of what you think describes me when you think about what/who I am.

Give no written explanation though. Just an image.

Copy and paste into your own journal and see what others think about you in pictures!

Reasons to love Turkey (4)

And after this, I'm going to stop spamming you all :-)

Under the cut, a few random bits and pieces of things that amused me while we were there.

last tranche )

And last but not least - that's four posts now without any mention of sexual situations at all. So here, for your edification, is a picture of an orgy --

click - you know you want to! )

So, that's it :-) Back to auld claes and cauld porridge now :-( Or more accurately, the last chapter of the Battle of the Harvest. Eee, it were grand though :-D

Reasons to love Turkey (3)

Everywhere you look in this country, there are piles of antiquities lying around. Literally lying around in the edges of fields, where they've been cleared away to make space for growing things. Bits and pieces of fluted columns, odd bits of pediments and architraves, capitals, all beautifully carved.

stuff like this )

Reasons to love Turkey (2)

Ephesus, Hieropolis and Tlos. All the ancient sites everywhere, actually - the country is littered with them. Far more certainly than the government can afford to excavate properly, or the archaeologists can keep up with.

Onward to the pics. Lots again, I'm afraid )

Reasons to love Turkey (1)

::takes deep breath::

Okay peeps, stand by to be bored out of your skulls with the holiday snaps *g*

Just a few pictures here (okay, quite a few), to show just how beautiful a country it is. Graphics heavy, so under a cut.

All this and sunshine too )

Ooops

::blush::

[livejournal.com profile] teand!! I'm so sorry! In all the post holiday kerfuffle, I missed your birthday :-(

I hope you had a good one, with cake of course, and the wishes, though late, are still heartfelt: I hope you have a year chock-full of the really good stuff in front of you!

::hugs::

Well, I'm back.

::hugs all round::

Lord, two weeks (two weeks!!) without internet access and I survived! Who'd'a thunk? *g* So -- what did I miss? Anything good?

Waves cheerio

Well my lovelies - holiday time is here at last :-) Off to Turkey tomorrow afternoon, hopefully for plenty of sun, sand, and what's that other thing that starts with an 's'? Oh yeah, sea.

Catch you all on the flip side :-D

Updates from Preservation Hell

Forget the 'mad scientist' trope: I'm officially instating the 'mad zucchini' trope in its stead. There is a zucchini plot to take over the world. And they're succeeding in this corner of it - I can't keep up ::wails:: And while there is apparently no limit to the amount of zucchini bread I can make, there *is* a limit to how much we can eat... or dedicate freezer space to... or how much the worms in the worm bin can eat... or fill *their* freezers with...

cut to protect the garden-produce-uninterested )

Also - we've had a triumph :-D

picture under the cut )

In other news, #1 son passed his driving test today \0/

I had a little rant all ready for your edification as well - but on mature consideration, I decided to spare you all and deleted it ;-)
