On Sunday night/Monday morning, some little twerp thought it was smart to jump up on the bonnet of my car and kick in the windscreen. Which of course I didn't notice until I jumped into the car to get to work.

Yesterday was fun. In the way of 'this is now so aggravating it's going beyond aggravating and really getting quite hysterical' fun. Endless bloody phone calls - police (not remotely interested), insurer (very helpful but not helpful enough to do anything about the £50 excess - 'normal for glass' apparently, even when it's vandalised glass and not accidental glass) and the windscreen place. Who agreed to come out that afternoon and mend it at the kerbside - between 2 and 5, 'sorry, can't be more specific'. Hmph.

Problem: it's tipping it down. I walk to work, get there very late and very wet.

I dry out, do some work, have to leave early to get back for the windscreen guy, walk home, arrive back very wet because it's tipping it down even harder.

Windscreen guy phones: 'it's raining. We can't do it in the rain, it stops the glue curing. Can you drive it here to the shop? Then we can do it this afternoon.'

Honestly? No. The damn thing's undriveable unless I punch out the windscreen and drive there with the rain battering into my face. Not an option.

So, plan B. I phone the other insurers, the breakdown insurers, who assure me they'll have a tow truck out within the hour to tow my baby to the glass shop. Problem: Edinburgh is currently traffic hell, thanks to our BARKING MAD council who've decided to dig up every possible road at the same time and close the ones that are left in their ludicrous traffic congestion scheme. (Sidebar, note to self: when Edinburgh City Council announce a traffic congestion scheme, remember for future reference that what they mean by that is that they want to *cause* congestion, not alleviate it. Presumably in revenge for getting beaten out on congestion charging. So don't get excited.) So, the promised hour becomes nearer two and now there's no way in hell the screen is going to be fixed before the shop shuts.

So, my poor baby is away on an overnighter - but that's okay. It's getting fixed. Until I get up this morning. Because it's *still* tipping it down and I shall get soaked again today, then shall have to take a *taxi* to the glass shop to avoid getting soaked again because it's impossible to get there by bus. Well not impossible - but a 15 minute car journey will take at least an hour by the three buses I'll need to take to get there. Because that's part deux of the Council's grand scheme - privatise the buses to make sure that the routes are restricted, then 'encourage' the drivers to abandon their cars in favour of non-existent public transport.

The Boomtown Rats had it spot on right :-(((

And I don't even have an 'angry' icon to put up on this post :-((( So I'll put up the one that never fails to cheer me up.

And a virtual umbrella.

Some clown jumped on our car once. Left the winscreen intact but dented the roof and the bonnet which was painful on the wallet. 8-(

I hope you got a crime number from the police - bump up their 'unsolved crime' stats. Doesn't do to let them get too complacent. }8-( That's part of the problem, I reckon.

The Boomtown Rats had it spot on right :-(((

In that case, I hope you can't get your hands on a gun... 8-O
I sure feel your pain though. Curse the rotter!

Curse the little twit indeed :-( If there's any justice at all in this life, he'll fall off when he tries to do another one and shatter his kneecap - that'll put his gas at a peep.

::feels vengeful::

But no, no guns. I don't really like the idea of guns. Thanks for the hugs :-))) Those, I like ;-)

Oh! Cats, thats awful ::sympathy hugs:: and I *so* agree on the bus thing...I have to use public transport all the time, and it like sux!
sorry bout yer car 8-/

My sisters friend had parked outside her house, and while he was inside, a bunch of kids bounced the car up the road, then trashed it..was a writeoff after that...wierd thing tho sister and friend was in the front room all the while, real near the roadside, had a clear view an all,and they never even saw a thing...didnt realise till he went out and saw no car.

and they never even saw a thing

Glad to know I'm not the only oblivious one on the planet.

Still, worse losses at Waterloo, I guess. Although the public transport thing still rankles :-(

But, bright side - I have the car back now :-) With a shiny, sparkly new windscreen! And the difference is incredible, the old one was like driving through a perpetual fog *g*

Aaarrrgghhhhh! That is so bloody annoying!

You're right - they *are* causing congestion and it's a plan to get you on privatised buses. Just have a look at stuff on www.smh.com.au and see the kefuffle about the new city tunnel. Due to a private-public partnership that is *way* too good to the private investors, Sydneysiders are being funnelled into using a white elephant that costs more than other tollways, and the local roads have been deliberately narrowed so people have to use the tunnel. Maybe Edinburgh is taking lessons from Sydney City Council.

Hmm, I see what you mean :-( Although I'm not really sure who's taking lessons from whom - we've been putting up with this kind of crap for years now, thanks to a certain erstwhile councillor with a bee in his bonnet about bicycles :-(

It's a fact of life though - *all* private/public partnerships are way too good to the private sector especially in the longer term. Councils there and here seem to be hell bent on spurious short term gains and devil take the long term consequences :-(

This is what I get for not reading the LJ during the week, so I'm posting late. :( Was wondering why I hadn't heard from you in over a week. Guess this is part of the reason why. Maybe SG10 will lift your spirits.

I don't blame you. One wonders if the place is being taken over by those children in Village of the Damned.
