The icon lies - there are a whole lot of words, but under the cut *g*
Not the last post about the trip - but the last post from here, sitting upfront in the RV and keeping my feet well away from the dog so that I don't kick her/tread on her again if I can help it *g*. I still have the voyage home to go though, and given past experience, something ridiculous is bound to happen *g*.
Hmm, yesterday. Yesterday was shopping, at least it was in the morning. My darling daughters provided me with a list - 'seeing as is's sooo cheap out there' - while #1 Son was a bit more moderate. Presents for #1 Son - check. Presents for The Man - check. Lists for daughters - as yet unfulfilled. So another round of shopping in the offing this morning, I think. Such a chore.
So, yesterday afternoon was spent on the tourist trail again :-) With limited success though, thanks to circumstances not entirely beyond our control ;-) First up was a visit to the Pacific Science Centre where they have an imax cinema showing 3D films. I'd never seen one of those before (no, really) so we thought - cool. Have to see one of those before I go. And there was a good one showing, about coral reefs, which Feather was keen to see. So we broke our necks to get over there, paid for parking, got to the centre in the nick of time - only to find that the film we wanted to see was sold out for that showing. So we reverted to plan B, a boat trip round the harbour. Time was getting tight, so with much grumbling about paying for unfulfilled parking minutes, we piled back in the jeep and scooted off to Pier 56.
We would have made it too, if I wasn't such a clown :-( Feather was helping a lady who had no change for the meters, so I grabbed the ticket and keys and belted back to the jeep while she was busy. Good thinking, no?
No. Instead of pressing the button to unlock the car, I pressed the feckin' panic button :-( The jeep went crackers, lights flashing, horn blaring, people staring at this small mad woman apparently stealing a car in broad daylight...
Feather appeared and I thought 'Thank god'. Relief was short lived though - she didn't know how to turn the damn thing off 'cos she's only had it for about five minutes before this trip. Picture the scene: the jeep is in the car lot under the flyover that carries I5, making a noise fit to wake the dead. Feather is scrabbling around in the door pocket having decided to resort to the unthinkable - actually reading the bloody manual - Carron and I are standing around scratching our heads and trying to look casual, and assorted local citizenry are looking on, trying to decide if they're brave enough to tackle this gang of middle aged, car stealing desperadoes and detain them until the police arrive. It all got too much for Carron and she sloped off, ostensibly to 'hold the boat up until you guys get there'. LOL!
Feather worked out how to switch the alarm off and we bolted over to the pier - and yay, the boat was still there. They wouldn't let us on it though, lord alone knows why *g*. Although actually, thinking about it, the pier was right across the street from where the jeep had had its little conniption fit, in full view of the girl in the ticket kiosk for the boat. She possibly thought she was doing her civic duty and not providing us with a handy getaway.
So, Plan C. We went for a bite to eat instead :-) I was warned that the portion sizes in Red Robin were huge, so I boxed clever this time. I went for soup and a salad. Why is nothing ever straightforward in this country? *g* I thought it was quite an uncomplicated choice - there were only oh, 72 varieties of soup to choose from (actually there were 6 - that was sarcasm *g*) - but no. We hit the vexed question of dressing for the salad. Now I swear to god these weren't listed anywhere on the menu, or I'd've been prepared. But the waiter (cute guy, btw) rattled off a list as long as your arm -- and I didn't understand a word of it. I was already rattled by the jeep fiasco, and I didn't want to look any stupider than I already was - so I got panicked into blue cheese, since that was the first one he said.
I thought I'd pulled it off with aplomb, too. I should have known better. Carron turned to me and said, "That was the only one you recognised, wasn't it?" in a very defeated tone, and with a spectacular eye roll LOL. Damn. Busted :-(((
We did make it into the film though :-) Interesting experience to be sitting in a movie theatre apparently surrounded by jellyfish. My mind went straight to the holodeck of course *g*. I'm glad I went - just not sure I'd go to another one. I found the whole thing a little bit disorientating once I'd gotten over the impulse to flinch when something bombed out of the screen and straight at me.
The Pacific Science Centre is cool though - lots of interesting public art, and very good, hands on exhibits. Another place I'd like to spend more time in - it's on the list for next year *g*.
In the evening we met up with another friend of mine and *her* friend, in order to pass on stuff that I'd schlepped from the UK for her. THis lass had been working in our school on an exchange and had accumulated plenty during her stay in Edinburgh, so I hauled some of it across to save on postage back to the States. We had another good meal, washed down with great beer, and a totally hilarious evening. The chat was very good indeed :-)
So, that was the story of yesterday. I can't believe my time here is at an end already. I'm quite looking forward to going home - but I really would like to stay. I hate last days :-( It's been a really, really quick trip though, I don't know where the time's gone :-(
Ach well, back to auld claes and cauld porridge for me :-(
ETA: forgot to mention - on the way home in the evening, Feather found a badly tarmaced cobbled street to drive along :-) The only one I've seen in Seattle. Man, all the rattling round over the uneven surface made me homesick (for all of about 20 seconds *g*)

Date: 2006-04-06 05:57 pm (UTC)And yeah, the 3D thing was worth doing once, I'd say. I did find it a little queasy-making though.

Date: 2006-04-05 08:12 pm (UTC)You should worry. According to some people's sat. nav., there's a short cut between Swaledale and Wensleydale. The road this route follows is actually a farm track that ends at the top of a hundred foot cliff...
The fact that this road comes under the jurisdiction of Grinton Parish Council and the cliff is in the village of Crackpot might lead you to suppose that this is a belated April Fool's Day spoof, but no. According to the Beeb tonight, it's true. {G}

Date: 2006-04-05 08:51 pm (UTC)LMAO. Now if MacGyver had've been there?
You'd've had him in the back of the Jeep. :))
Sounds like another fun filled day.
