Yay, go me :-) I have survived the Week From Hell (tm) and things can only go up from here :-D
I was reading
princessofg and she had some questions. I dunno if she intended it to be a meme, but hey, I don't need that much encouragement *g*
1. What's your favorite place to write, and what things do you like to have nearby you at the time?
I don't have a favourite exactly. My *preferred* place is at this pc, the one I'm using right now, because I love the kb. It has just the right amount of 'clunk' and the keys are in exactly the right places for my fingers to find them easily and quickly in a way that the lappy kb just isn't. I don't have any preferred accompaniments either, other than a ready supply of cigarettes (for which I refuse to apologise - probably because I'm *fed up* of apologising for them) and something potable to hand - tea, water or red wine, depending on the time of day.
2. When you first meet someone (whether on-line or in real life), what's
the first thing you tend to notice about them?
Their sense of humour. Definitely their sense of humour. It's the Great Leveller. Silly, sarky, sophisticated, I don't care - laughing at life and/or at oneself is one of the most valuable assets anyone can have. This is not a dress rehearsal, it should be *fun* first and foremost.
3. What's your favorite picture or knick-knack in your house/apartment/yurt?
I wish I lived in a yurt :-) One day I will, for a short while - the Steppes are one of the places on my 'must visit' list.
Hmm. I have several favourites! My most favourite favourites are a glass lizard that Shazz gave me; a bronze cat that Jen gave me; a set of cushions (Kaffe Fassett designs) that I sewed in needlepoint.
4. Do you write your fics in more or less the order they'll eventually
appear in, skip around from scene to scene, or both? What do you like best about whatever method you use?
Oh dear no, I hop around all over the shop ;-) I think I've only ever written one in strict linear order. I mostly have the end written and have to figure out how to get there, or the beginning and two or three points roughly in the middle, and have to figure out how to join them up in a reasonable fashion. It's all quite horrifyingly chaotic.
I don't particularly like the way I write, it's just the way it seems to happen.
5. What single quality (or okay, maybe a couple of qualities) do your
favorite characters in your various fandoms have in common?
Oh. Tricky. Wisecracking is definitely one of them I think. And a distinct difference between what you get on the surface and what's underneath. Jack and Daniel for example: Jack on the surface is the harder of the two, but is very soft centred; Daniel *looks* like a pushover, but has a core of steel. I think that holds true of all the pairings I like - I like the contrast between what you see and what you get :-)

Date: 2006-05-07 09:39 pm (UTC)good for you for not apologizing for smoking. if you are civil and don't inflict it on people who don't like it when you're on their turf, it's YOUR business. if you smoke on your own turf, so be it.
I am a former smoker, you know. but I found that there was no way i was going to quit when I was still defensive about it! hee hee. i tended to use it as a form of escape, rebellion or defiance. My whole life seems to be one big attempt at addiction management, with interludes of sanity.....
thanks for the window into your process...

Date: 2006-05-10 07:58 am (UTC)Exactly! I'm juuust stubborn enough not to quit when every-damn-one and his wife and his little dog too tell me that I should *g*
As for being civil about it - yes, I honestly believe I am. I'll be in non-smoking company and not light up, that's only good manners. I've been asked not to smoke in my own house by visitors with health problems and have respected that too. But I have also been *told* not to smoke in my own house by visitors - and I'm afraid my answer to that is generally 'There's the door. If you're quick, it won't hit you in the ass.' :-(
And LOL! I think 'process' is probably pitching it a little high ;-)

Agreed! And I'm jealous cause you get to smoke in the house. :-p Mind, I smoke less because I can't. There're times where I'm right in the middle of a scene I'm writing and I suddenly realize that I haven't had a cig in three hours and then that's all I can think about till I get off my ass and go outside. Probably a good thing, making me move my fat butt, but still... options! Damn it! I want options! *gg*
