By gum, it's been a funny old week.

This time last week I was sitting in Huffy's garden in Cardiff, chowing down happily on -- what now?  Was it the serendipitous pasta?  I do believe it was -- having a whale of a time munching and chatting and getting tanked into the remains of a box of red wine, the self same box that we'd largely seen off the night before.  The weather was sunny, we'd had great fun on Thursday seeing some of the sights of Tiger Bay, Friday had been eventful vis-a-vis veterinary vists, and we were looking forward to Saturday's trip to a mediaeval village at Cosmeston Lake.

This visit by the way was a roaring success:  there were re-enactors there and we were treated to mummers and a Manor Court AND Buzz Lightyear in full C14th armour, swordfighting.  Okay, not actually Buzz, but a lookee likee who was scarily likee *g*.  Much heckling by Huffy of course LOL.  We had a go at archery too and I actually hit the target!  The 'village inn' was populated by a goodly variety of tree huggers all flogging organic tree hugger stuff including some spectacularly good cider and nettle beer and we had a couple of strange circular conversations there with Not-Martin and his friend the Drunken Monk (don't ask).  I had a whale of a time - it fair took me back to my salad days ;-)

Sunday though I had to come home.  Flying, of course, and I should really know better by now.  I thought I was onto a winner this time with only hand luggage, ie nothing to go astray.  Bong!  Wrong.  First off, we got caught in roadworks and traffic and assorted other tailbacking nonsense and consequently what had started off as 'yeah, plenty of time - you might have to hang around at the airport for a bit but that's okay' rapidly degenerated into 'depending on what the hold up is and if this Sunday-driving  knob gets out of the way soon, I can put my foot down and we'll get there in time after all'.  Ah me.

Anyway, long story short - the hold up evaporated, the knob turned off our route and Huff put her foot down.  I gasped up to the check in desk after yet another fun sprint through an airport with approximately 30 seconds to spare only to be told that the flight had been delayed for two hours.

Exit Cats, stage left, grumpy, to the pub after phoning home to say I'd been delayed. Of course, no living soul could be bothered to answer the phone, so I phoned The Man on his mobile. No answer there either so I left a voicemail. Arrived at Edinburgh without further incident - no Man with transport. Damn voicemail hadn't worked beyond indicating that I'd been delayed, revised time of arrival indeterminate, and bugger me if not a soul in this supposedly high tech household even thought to lift the bleedin' phone to find out what had happened to the flight. Excuse? 'We didn't know who you were travelling with.'

Yeah, like there are hundreds of flights that leave Cardiff at lunchtime on a Sunday to fly to Edinburgh. Sometimes I despair. Didn't take the gloss of Cardiff though, which was a great trip and a fun weekend :-)

Monday was notable for a) getting Avalon tickets and b) taking delivery of new car :-) Don't know which pleased me most, actually. New car is a cracker - and I do mean new, as in brand, spanking new, first time ever ::beams:: It's a wee cracker too, a Suzuki Swift, five door, keyless start (which always makes me giggle because I think at once of Erica Jong and god help me I just know I'm going to refer to it as having a zipless fuck at some point and probably to someone desperately inappropriate), Kashmir blue and it goes like a wee bomb. Looks a little like a mini from the front if you see it from the right angle and a little like a jeep from the right back angle. I love it.

Tuesday was notable for an entirely different reason: one of the little darlings at the school lamped me. Slapped me in the face. I've rarely been so out and out furious in my life - quite apart from anything else, the paperwork involved has been horrendous.

Wednesday was spent diving around in prep. for Thursday, which was middle daughter's 21st. Nice, happy, family day :-) Party is due tomorrow and is planned to be a barbie in the garden, so please keep everything crossed for a decent day. Today has been a stinker - wet, windy and miserable, so tomorrow could be anything at all. Today has also seen work at both jobs and catering in between, so it's been a long one ::yawns:: So after I've posted this, I'm toddling off to bed.

So that was it. Never rains round here but it pours.

Thanks ::hugs back:: And yes, Tiger Bay is a 'must do' - as these urban regeneration things go, it's a good 'un :-) Great place to just hang out and watch the world go by!
