(no subject)

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. After, post this in your journal, and give out some letters of your own.

Ozy gave me 'R'.

1. Reading. All my life, I've mostly had my nose stuck in a book. And they've taken me to some wonderful places. Narnia, Middle Earth, the Devil's Punchbowl, Mars, the past, the future. I just don't get it when people say, 'Me? I don't read.' And say it as if it's something to be proud of. Nope, I just don't get that at all.

2. Random encounters. I love yapping to pretty well everyone I meet when I'm out and about - at bus stops, in bus stations, in airports, wherever. Glimpses of other people's lives are utterly fascinating.

3. Rimming. Just about my favourite thing to read in fic :-)

4. Rime. Very pretty. The only thing I've ever liked about cold weather. And the best thing about it, you can watch it from indoors *g*

5. Red wine, the tipple of choice. I like to think I'm doing my bit to mop up the Euro wine lake *g*

6. Rachmaninov. Some of the most sublime piano music ever written.

7. Rings. I'm addicted to them, especially when they involve opals :-)

8. RDA, duh. The guy is sex on legs.

9. Ridiculous humour. Stuff like the Goons and the Goodies and Monty P. And I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, does anyone else remember that? And At Last, the 1948 Show? And Do Not Adjust Your Set?

10. Radio Four. (BBC talk radio, for all you non-Brits out there) I love the quirky filler programmes that crop up there. And the Shipping Forecast, one of the great cornerstones of British life *g*

So, nothing terribly profound about that list, sorry :-( Any takers for a letter though?

*is mesmerized*

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Heheheh you're using it - the icon I mean :-))) Still makes me giggle! And incidentally reminds me of an old, old joke involving an elephant, a mouse and a coconut...

But I digress. How about 'N'?

[identity profile] yragg.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Course I am using it. What else could you mean?

Replying gives me an excuse to use this one now.

Pray do tell me about the elephant, mouse and coconut.

Thanks for the 'N', I shall get onto it.

[identity profile] ducks-in-a-row.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man--how can people live without reading? Seriously, I do not understand that.

Of course, those people probably never missed supper, not having heard Mom calling because they had their noses buried in a book :-0

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it'a a complete and utter mystery to me too, I lost count of the times I got a row for being late to the table because I was 'just finishing a good bit' when I was young *g*

Okay, here's a letter for you, if you want one - 'T'

[identity profile] msbeata.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Do you find that people who primarily read non-fiction lack imagination? I mean that they have difficulty opening their minds to science fiction or fantasy concepts?

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not really sure. #1 son has only been known to open a fiction book when he's been forced to (and to my knowledge has only ever finished two *g*). He only ever seems to read for information, and it was the same when he was small and being read to: dinosaurs and space were his top favourites. But I'd say he has an averagely good imagination and enjoys both sci fi and fantasy films with no difficulty in suspending disbelief... so I just don't know.

And here's a letter for you too: 'D'

[identity profile] msbeata.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Duh!

D'oh!

I did my 'D's and completely forgot Daniel.

Dork.

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
::pets MsB::

The 'D's you came up with were very, very good though, missing Daniel notwithstanding :-)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
By no means too late - you can have 'C' :-)

[identity profile] yragg.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Why thank you my dear, I've been playing in PSP again.

[identity profile] alphekka-alpha.livejournal.com 2006-09-17 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And you've been playing very nicely, Sweetie. 8-)

[identity profile] blue-adagio.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so with you on no. 1, 3, 6, and 8 of course. *g*

Will have to listen to Radio Four one day just to hear the famous Shippng Forecast. I've heard other people refer to it as well. What is it that makes it so special, though? Is it a cornerstone because it's been on air for a long period of time?

And can I have a letter, please? Thanks! :)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
1,3,6 & 8 but of course! And as Gal so rightly points out, 3 & 8 in the same breath *in particular* LOL

I have no idea what makes the Shipping Forecast so special - I suspect most sailors these days rely on satnav and radar rather than the BBC *g*. But there's something wonderfully soothing about 'Fisher, Rockall, German Bight' and 'precipitation within sight', all delivered in clipped, BBC English :-)

So, a letter: how would 'P' grab you?

[identity profile] wadjet-theperv.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)

There really is. I grew up just about as far away from the sea as you can get in England, yet me and my Nannan always listened to the Shipping Forecast. If I hear it now, I'm immediately five years old, sitting in my grandparents' living room.

Bit like Mrs. Pepperpot!

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Zackly :-)))

[identity profile] blue-adagio.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
P is great! Thank you. :)

[identity profile] wadjet-theperv.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
. Rimming. Just about my favourite thing to read in fic :-)
****

Oh yes. Sublime...

And just to humour a daft awd Sassenach, what's rime?

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Rime = frost. Yeah, yeah, cheating, I know - but I was desperate ;-)

And you commented so you get - 'G' :-))

[identity profile] wadjet-theperv.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha! Frost. Yeah, love that too. Can't wait till winter! Well, y'know what a snowball I am *g*.

'G'. Hmm... now let me think... If you smell burning, you'll know what it is!

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!
