So, it went ahead. Saddam was executed a couple of hour ago. As a human being, I regret this immeasurably. It diminishes me. Deliberately taking life is wrong. It makes no odds whether an individual murders someone, or whether a legislature is sanctioned to carry out the same act: there are no degrees of wrongness here and calling it an 'execution' doesn't alter that fact.
