I know some of you guys knit ([livejournal.com profile] perclexed, [livejournal.com profile] reedfem, [livejournal.com profile] babs_sg1, not looking at you *in particular* ::grin::)

Does anyone know of a good site for knitting patterns? Either freebies or paid-for downloads, I'm not that fussy - except, not vintage, 'cos I'm not anywhere near that tiny ;-) I've taken the notion for knitting again and I have a quantity of cotton chenille (knits as 4-ply) which I quite fancy for a cardigan or a shrug, something along those lines. I just don't have a pattern. I've kind of exhausted all the sites I can think of, and shops that sell patterns are getting kind of like hens' teeth over here. So, can anyone help me out with somewhere new?

Oh good lord are there sites. Do you want me to send you an invite to ravelry? (ravelry.com) Just let me know which email you'd like me to send it to. You can browse based on yarn weight, I think.

I like chicknits.com patterns for cardigans. She's got very basic but pretty groovy designs. I'll have to think about other pullovers...I have tons of bookmarks...hey, you know, you might browse the knitting category here: http://del.icio.us/perclexed

I'll brainstorm on my end as well. WHEE!

Most of the yarn manufacturers have patterns on their websites. I think most of the big ones I use have already been mentioned. I'll add e-PatternsCentral (http://www.e-patternscentral.com/), The Daily Knitter (http://www.dailyknitter.com/) and Knitting on the Net (http://www.knittingonthenet.com/).

Everyone's recommended the sites I would recommend. Ravelry is awesome! Sign up and wait for your invitation--they send out a lot in a day so even if the wait seems long, you'll be in within 10 days or so.

knitty.com which is an online free magazine is pretty awesome and you can access their past issues.

knittingpatterncentral.com is also a good site but Ravelry--ahh--love love love Ravelry.

I have to recommend everyone's Ravelry recommendation :-) I'm archerygirl over there. You can browse by yarn weight, style, free, online - whatever. The great thing is that you can see people's comments on the patterns and it links to everyone who has used that pattern in their projects so that you can see what it actually looks like when real people rather than trained professionals do it. The forums are also great for getting recommendations on patterns and yarn and so on.

It's a great site :-)
