Kittylitter is a year old today! And the hit count is astounding and humbling, because it has exceeded anything I ever envisioned. So grateful thanks to anyone who's ever read anything there :-)))

Although I'm guessing the solitary Aymara speaker who was actually looking for a supplier of cat litter was a little disappointed with their search results ;-)

I visit Kittylitter (and Plotexpo) whenever I can in the hopes of new stuff. I haven't had a chance to read Interplay yet. When I start to, I realize that I'm too tired and don't retain any of it. But will when I can.

Burning Love is still one of my favorite stories. I go to it whenever I need that giggle...

Hee :-) It makes me very happy to think I've written a guaranteed pick-me-up. :-):-)

And I'm with you on plotexpo: several of Carron's fics take me straight to my happy place :-)

Thank you!

How's yours coming along?

totally stalled. i have server space, and i've been working along on it, but i apparently picked a stupid program to create it with (iWeb) and I've been daunted/overcommitted and have not studied up on the html I need to really make it simpler to do.

So i'm not sure where I'm at with it. Also, I wish to hell I'd started sooner because I have so many stories to post now (about 50) that it's going to take forever to get them formatted.

So i'm sure i'll do it eventually, because I really like the way it looks and i want to do it, but I might post the stories to area 52 as a stopgap.

It's very important to me to do this myself (long story), so I just have to peck away at it somehow.

Longer answer than you really wanted, I bet. anyway. *cheers* and thanks for all the luscious fic!!!

I feel your pain - I started out using a web authoring thingummy and it really didn't take :-(. Now I just use notepad, mostly. And yeah, formatting is a bind - I had about 40 and it seemed to take forever.

If it ever becomes *less* important to do it all yourself, I'd be happy enough to help you out with the basic, donkey-work formatting - paragraphs, bold, italics and the like...

you are very generous. i'm caught between a rock and hard place; if i go with a simpler design of my own, i have to start over; and if i stay with the software i've already started using, i have to keep doing it myself.

*procrastinates*

do you have any free advice?

Date: 2008-04-12 07:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com
Not advice so much, just observation from my own experience --

I found the web authoring tools that were available very unsatisfactory, I think because I couldn't see how they worked, which doesn't suit the way that I learn and retain. Therefore I couldn't get them to do what I wanted them to do. So I wasted a lot of time and suffered a lot of frustration trying to do what I wanted.

In the end, I found it better for me to approach it backside-foremost, almost *g*. Scale down the master plan, decide what I wanted to do, then use 'HTML for Dummies' to work out how to do it in longhand, as it were *g*. I figured it was easier to go that way and at least get something up, with a view to refining it later. So the source code maybe looks like toddler talk, but it *works*. (In fact, there's no 'maybe' about it, it does look like toddler talk LOL) And it was certainly quicker in the long run, because it was results-driven: once it was starting to take shape, it was less of a chore to do the coding. Downside is that there are huge gaps in my knowledge of HTML, but I guess I can plug them as and when I need to.

[livejournal.com profile] ximeria recently pointed me towards a program that I'm finding useful, called Stone's Webwriter.

http://www.webwriter.dk/english/

It's good at taking the donkey work out of manual coding using the 'find/replace' command: I find it a handy half-way house between using an authoring tool and doing it by hand. And I daresay it can do more stuff that I haven't discovered yet ;-)

So, not advice, but certainly free *g*.

I'm liking that icon very much indeed :-))) Any idea what the source pic is?

none, but magnavox made it. magnavox23? must check her nick.... i am not a collector of rda's previous roles, but he must have been one hot number in his twenties, from the few photos i've seen. yum.

I'm not so keen on the *really* young pics of him I've seen, but I like that one!

*g* It's not only kittylitter shoppers I seem to lure in - there's such a thing as Catspaw screwdrivers too, apparently. Which is probably oddly appropriate.

Thanks! Here's to the next year or so - and for plotexpo too :-D
