Only automobiles, actually ;-)

On Friday we headed down to Stalybridge to party with [livejournal.com profile] historyterry on the occasion of his graduation. Me, [livejournal.com profile] feather_autant, [livejournal.com profile] nicci_mac, [livejournal.com profile] selenay936, [livejournal.com profile] sazzle_02 and [livejournal.com profile] blue_adagio all in Tel's house for the weekend - it's a wonder the poor lad wasn't barking by the time we all dispersed LOL. Still, we all had a great time, the weather was still pretty good, and the catering was tasty :-D

Staly is a lovely little town, with some very pretty little lanes - this one is a short cut to Tel's house from the railway station and looks just like something out of a Hovis advert *g*

I can't imagine what it would be like coming down there in the winter though! You'd probably do it best on a tin tray LOL

We went out for a walk on Saturday afternoon to a lovely park not far from his house, and [livejournal.com profile] blue_adagio took a daft turn and was tremendously athletic up trees and on a rope swing - AND we have the video to prove it ::evil grin:: The park is a lovely mix of wild area - with the oddest little walls around the stream at the bottom, peppered with grotesque little faces popping out of the stonework - and more manicured bits on the flanks of the valley. Some of the flowers were gorgeous

although we'd missed the best of the spring show and were a touch too early for the bulk of the summer flowers. Still, it was a lovely walk. Apart from that, all the rest of the time was spent chatting and laughing *g*. And drinking, there was a fair bit of that going on as well ;-) The whole gang doesn't get together nearly often enough so we have to make double time when we can ;-)

Sunday, and the farewells started. Sel and Blue were both leaving that day from Manchester, so we toddled up in the train to see them off. Another glorious day, so we hung in Canal Street for a while, had a meal in a pub there and then came home for more drinking *g*. Saz left at about 10 to drive home, which left us down to four. Three of whom were very tired bunnies after all this merriment and also facing a long drive home the next morning, so that was a comparatively early night.

On the way home, we decided to take the tourist route - and only got lost once ::shakes fist at Halifax:: However, it was a drama rather than a crisis, and we were soon on the right road again. Once again the weather was brilliant, and the Yorkshire Dales were at their spectacular best. We had lunch sitting on a wall beside the Rochdale Canal, where we made some new best friends:

And somewhere or other along the route, don't ask me where, we spotted this

which you don't see every day *g*. Not sure if it was a holiday caravan or not, but I suspect it was. It was causing a stir on the A6 though *g*.

Heheheh. On the way back, I did most of the driving since Nicci wasn't feeling that great :-( Just before we hit the M6, she decided to have a power nap in the back. On the way down, I'd driven to Gretna, and had been hurtling along at about 90, much to Nicci's surprise - she didn't know her car could go that fast LOL. When she woke up again, I was able to tell her that her car can do 100. And two. Oops ::looks sheepish::

I love driving fast! Pity I rarely get the opportunity.

And your pics are gorgeous! I also find it interesting how many people you've actually met from LJ. I haven't met any!

I haven't met any!

We'll need to try and put that right, one of these days! Actually, we've mostly all met at cons over here - with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] feather_autant, we're one chapter of the Brit Contingent LOL. But your comment made me think: I went and counted how many of the people on my flist I've met, and it's in the high 20s.

In retrospect, it wasn't so much Halifax's fault as Burnley's, and my dodgy geography when it comes to Yorkshire/Lancashire. But still, Halifax is convenient for shouldering the blame *g*

I know! Just as well the road was quiet, and that the speed cops were all chasing down the folk going faster than me ;-)
