...yes, yes, I can hear the groans from here, shutup, you don't need to click on the cut... ;-)

Another three-way today ;-) Me, [livejournal.com profile] nicci_mac and [livejournal.com profile] ximeria at the Botanic Gardens. Xim showed me the other day how to use the macro properly, so this was a great excuse *g*

First though, a picture of the glasshouses that we spent all of our time in today. Just because it's a lovely building.

glasshouse

The flowers in all the different habitats were utterly glorious. There were cacti and succulents, and strelitzias, and orchids galore, and really odd yellow bud-type things, lord alone knows what they were.

mamillaria

agave

strelitzia

white orchid

pink orchid

odd yellow buds

Edit Xim found out what the odd yellow bud things are (all hail Ximeria and the power of her google fu) - a variety of ginger, apparently :-)

The temperate houses had some little gems too.

red bracts

But my absolute favourite picture of the day was this one. I just love love LOVE how the water turned out, like old 1950s squiggly wallpaper (except not that vile mustard yellow *g*).

Ohh, you're right, the water looks terrific. Like a really neat graphics effect. You take very interesting shots!

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you :-) But that was pure chance, the thing with the water - was totally meant ;-)

Seriously, it was pure luck. Just so happened that that area of the pond had clear airspace up to the glasshouse roof, and the ripples of the fish coming up disturbed the reflections of the glazing bars.

Actually, I think this is the picture of my *year*, not just my day. I'm really very pleased with it.

[identity profile] sharp2799.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think you should look into whether there are any local photography contests around. If there are, you should enter it.

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I seriously doubt if it's good enough for that - it's good by my standards though *g*

[identity profile] sharp2799.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe people should stop saying no for others. In other words, stop taking away other people's choices! You submit the work and let THEM decide whether they like it or not.

So there.

::is chastened::

You're lovely when you're strict, you know that? *g*

[identity profile] carron.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Look it's a crap....I mean CARP!

ROFL! (remember that, huh?)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
ROFLMAO! What a load of koi!

Yes indeed I do remember! And yanno, still to this day - I'm incapable of typing anything but the fish, first shot *g*

Lovely, lovely, lovely. *happy sigh*

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you ::pleased grin::

We had a really fun day out, all three of us snapping away like snapping things ;-)

[identity profile] ailis-70.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
These are utterly beautiful. Especially the orchids and the bird of paradise. So very pretty.

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, all the flowers were sublime. Everywhere you looked, there was something beautiful to look at :-)

[identity profile] riverfox.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful! :)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There isn't much you can do wrong with a picture of a flower *g* And it was fun seeing what the camera could do.

[identity profile] riverfox.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. :) I love it when the camera captures what you see and the advent of digital, with those live windows, is probably the best thing since sliced bread. No mystery wasting of film. ;)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, digital mightily rocks. If nothing else, it turns photography into an affordable hobby, not just the preserve of those with either their own dark room or very deep pockets :-)

[identity profile] riverfox.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. And saves us all from rushing to the photo lab only to find that the technician has screwed up your pictures. *sighs* If only they'd had digital cameras back when I was traveling around in the Army.

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. Just think of the photos you would have had.

Didnt they turn out well? Fantastic shots, every one of them. Me and Xim are still going through ours. I managed to cut about 80 but it still leaves me with over 100 pics of today's jaunt!!

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye, they turned out no' bad *g*. And all I really had to do was crop and resize them - even better!

Now if only I could find the manual and find out what the other settings do...

LOL!

[identity profile] jacknlizabeth.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
wow, that water is cool looking, great shot. can't believe how vibrant the colors are on the flowers, beautiful shots.

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! All the rainforest flowers are unbelievably bright and intense. Get the focus right, and it's hard to take a bad shot of them, to be honest.

Oooh, gorgeous!

I'm especially mesmerized by the third picture -- it's like looking at a kaleidoscope or something, I just get lost in it. And the squiggle water is awesome! And the tiki-torch plants, which I've never seen before.

Sounds (and looks) like it was a great day. :-)

[identity profile] catspaw-sgjd.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, it was a brilliant day :-) Macro heaven ;-)
